Carolyn's story...
When I first travelled to Bhutan in 2001, it made such an indelible impression on me that I promised myself I would make my way back somehow. I did, returning five years later to work for the UN World Food Program and within months I met Kinzang (or Kin as he is known to those in Australia) who eventually became my husband. Although we moved back to Australia and I took up the role of CEO of the Australian Himalayan Foundation managing international development across the Himalaya, I maintained a close connection to Bhutan, working with Her Majesty, Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck as an International Ambassador to Her Majesty’s NGO dedicated to the development of women and girls and leading travel groups from Australia across Bhutan. Eventually Kinzang and I returned in 2019, this time making our home amongst the clouds a permanent one. Working closely with my wonderful father-in-law and his network of people and places that is second to none, I now love sharing our lives up here on top of the world with guests.
Colonel Kado's story
Kinzang's father, Colonel Kado Tshering, is a retired officer of The Bhutan Royal Body Guards and during his professional life, had the extraordinary honor of serving as Aide-de-Camp to His Majesty the Fourth King of Bhutan and their Majesties the Queens. With over 40 years of experience as ADC to the Royal family, he has had the remarkable opportunity to explore every corner of the country, forming deep connections with the local people. Traveling the country in this way, has meant Col. Kado was granted unique access to many special places, places that he now takes great joy in sharing with guests - making magical things happen in the way only Colonel Kado can.
